My First Spyderco Knife

About eight years ago I went into a cutlery store in a mall and looked at the flashy steal that was on the wall and in the glass cabinets.  I was waisting time so when the sales person came over to me and ask if he could help me I said "no, I'm just looking".

I went over to the glass case that had the folding knives in it and checked out the brands that he had.  There was the Case, Brown and Sharp, Buck, ect., ect..
Then I spotted the "Round Hole" Spyderco.
I remember my son telling me about the one he had bought in Washington when he was at the Divers Institute and how he liked it as well as the reputation that it had with divers.

I ask the clerk if I could look at that one over there.  The one with the Hole?
The Spyderco, he ask?
Thats the Spyderco, Viele.  It's a signature knife he said.

I didn't know what a signature knife was but it looked good and I wanted to see it.
He reached into the case and brought it out and with one snap of his thumb the blade was open.
I mentaly jumped back as I said, Is that a "switchblade"?

He smiled and said no not at all.  It's a regular locking knife.  and with the same one hand motion closed the knife and snapped it open again.  Just by using his thumb.
I said, that must have taken you sometime to learn how to do that didn't it?

Nope, not at all.  Here, try it.
I took the knife and tried it and my thumb kept sliding off the hole.  Again I tried and again and finaly it opened part way.  Woops, almost cut myself.  Humm?  With another quick snap it happened and I've been snapping every sence with my own Spyderco.

I know you will enjoy your Spyderco knife as much as I do mine.  You may even like to collect them.  I wish I could.  There are many different models avalible here so check them out.

It's your turn to snap the hole!
